Preventive dentistry is the general practice of caring for your teeth and gums using treatments and best practices to keep them healthy. Proper oral hygiene can ensure teeth are clean and strong. It also helps to avoid cavities, gum disease and more. Effective preventive dentistry starts with at-home oral care along with chairside treatments and counseling from a dental professional. There are many forms of preventive care ranging from periodic dental cleanings, brushing and flossing, diet and orthodontics.
Cleanings and Examinations
A dental visit involving examinations and cleanings (prophylaxis) are recommended every six months to remove dental plaque and stains. A thorough check-up for signs of tooth decay that can cause infection, tooth loss or damage is also conducted. During the visit, radiographs (x-rays) can be taken for closer inspection. Children would also receive fluoride treatments or sealants.
Our dentists also provide orthodontic evaluations to children and adults. The evaluation focuses on the facial development of your teeth, gums, bones and muscles in you mouth so you can plan ahead with additional dental care treatment in cases where the dentist notices the crowding of teeth, too much space between teeth, protruding teeth, extra or missing teeth and sometimes jaw growth problems. Once the assessment is complete, our office will refer you to an orthodontist along with your formal evaluation with our findings.
Restorative dentistry involves the analysis, prevention and treatment of oral diseases. Your dentist will suggest a treatment plan to restore teeth that are decayed, chipped, discolored or missing. There are many forms of restorative dentistry ranging from fillings, surgical and compact extractions, crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures, and more.
Dental fillings are used to treat cavities, cracked or broken teeth, or teeth that have been worn down over time. Teeth can be filled with gold; porcelain; silver amalgam; or tooth-colored materials.
At times, teeth need to be removed due to decay, disease or trauma. Simple or surgical extractions become necessary, and your dentist will differentiate between the two procedures. Wisdom teeth removal commonly uses surgical extraction because they are impacted into the mouth. Before the extraction, you will be given an anesthetic to reduce your discomfort. Your mouth will remain numb for a few hours after the extraction. Your dentist will place a gauze pack on the extraction site to limit bleeding and provide post-op instructions.
A root canal is a procedure to repair a badly decayed or infected tooth. It involves removing the damaged area of the tooth, disinfecting it and then sealing it. X-rays are typically taken and local anesthesia is usually provided.
Periodontal Disease Management
Gingivitis and periodontitis are two forms of periodontal disease. While gingivitis is the mildest form, left untreated it can lead to periodontitis. Plaque spreads and grows below the gum line eventually separating from the teeth. A periodontal deep scaling and root planning is performed to remove bacteria, calculus, and debris that has collected under the gum line.
Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your mouth, teeth and smile. Most procedures are considered elective, rather than essential. We offer teeth whitening, prosthetics for missing teeth and tissue care.
We offer in-office and at-home whitening options that can help brighten your smile and remove tooth stains.
Implants, Crowns and Bridges
We offer several dental prosthetics. A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically positioned into the jawbone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. A bridge is commonly used to cover an area missing more than one tooth. Crowns cover a damaged tooth or an implant and can be conducted in one or two office visits. Bridges and crowns are cemented onto existing teeth.
Porcelain and Composite Veneers
Veneers are shells of tooth-colored, translucent porcelain or composite resin material. They are custom made to fit over your teeth and improve their color, shape and appearance. Perfect your smile with veneers.
Dentures (Complete/Full & Partial)
Dentures are removable replacements for your missing teeth that clasp onto your gum line to stay in place. They are custom-made for a natural look and fit.
